Live from Salisbury, Maryland, "welcome to the party!" A capacity crowd is in attendance tonight, following Steve Grissom's win at the Goodys Headache Powder 300 behind the wheel of the WCW NASCAR, to witness two big matches: Ric Flair vs the Macho Man Randy Savage for the WCW World Heavyweight Title and the Enforcer Arn Anderson vs Hulk Hogan in a rematch from last week's Nitro!
Arn Anderson comes down to the ring first, accompanied by Woman, followed by Hogan. The Hulkster jumps AA before the bell, choking Anderson with his own ring jacket. Hogan's face is still bandaged from the heel attack, but he's not wearing the patch anymore. Hogan dominates Anderson through the match. Anderson heads to the second rope, Hogan knocks him down. He applies the lateral press but instead of pinning elects to bite Arn's face. He does this over and over again. Hogan tosses AA out of the ring, chases after him, takes a fan's Hulkamania scarf, and chokes Arn with it before chasing Woman around. Back in the ring, AA goes for a DDT but Hulk hulks out of it and goes for his finisher sequence, following up by locking on the Figure Four Leglock. Arn's in trouble when the Taskmaster runs in. Macho Man makes the save at the last second, but the ref sees Savage and not Sullivan and disqualifies Hogan. Arn Anderson has beaten Hulk Hogan twice in a row!
Steve Grissom joins Mean Gene on the ramp. They show some video clips from the Goodys Headache Powder 300, the race that ended in victory for Grissom and the WCW car. Sting, Luger, and the Harlem Heat were in the pit during the race and Grissom says that Sting served as great moral support. Grissom sounds like Boomhauer.
The next segment is a match between Das Wunderkind Alex Wright and Loch Ness. The match is essentially identical to the Riggs squash from last week. Wright hits a bunch of ineffectual offense and Loch Ness drops the elbow on him for three. Loch Ness tries to count along with the ref's count but goes "2, 4, whatever."
Next up is a cruiserweight match pitting Brad Armstrong, of the famous Armstrong family, against the Belfast Bruiser, later known as Fit Finlay. On commentary, Eric announces that the Bruiser has come from Ireland to compete for the new Cruiserweight title in WCW. This is essentially a glorified squash. Its longer than the Loch Ness squash and significantly better, though. The Bruiser and Armstrong are working exceptionally stiff, Belfast Bruiser in particular as he dominates the match. Towards the end, Armstrong starts getting some offense on the Bruiser but he puts Armstrong down decidedly with a side powerslam. The Belfast Bruiser then calls out Steven Regal.
Our main event of the evening is the World Heavyweight Title rematch, Ric Flair vs Randy Savage. Flair is accompanied to the ring by Miss Elizabeth and Woman. Flair sings "I've got the whole world in my hands" as Savage enters the ring. Savage spits in Flair's face and the bell rings. They lock up and Macho Man starts taking it to Flair. He goes for the turnbuckle mounted punches but Flair reverses into an atomic drop, shifting the momentum in his favor. Flair knocks Savage out of the ring and throws him over the guardrail into the laps of the fans. He drags him back over the guardrail and chops away. Flair rolls back into the ring to break the count as Savage recovers. Macho Man chases Woman around the ring until Flair drops an elbow off the apron. Woman then rakes Savage's eyes before Flair drags him back into the ring.
Flair keeps the chops flying thick and heavy until Savage powers back and they begin trading blows. Flair keeps advantage and knocks Savage off his feet, but immediately flops. Back on his feet, he goes for a top rope elbow but Savage throws him off the turnbuckle. Savage locks in a Figure 4, but Flair, ring veteran, gets to the ropes. Back on their feet, Savage locks in a sleeper but Flair counters with a side suplex. A quick irish whip sequence followed up by a stalling vertical suplex from Flair sprawls both men. Flair gets to his feet first, drops Savage into a shinbreaker, and locks in the Figure Four. Savage rolls it over, hooks Flair's arms, and pulls him over in a backslide for two. Back on their feet, Savage spits in Flair's face and goes for the turnbuckle mounted punches again. Flair tries to reverse it with the atomic drop, like he did earlier, but Savage was prepared and lays him out with a big right and before he can drop all the way. Savage runs to the top rope and hits the double axe handles, calling for the big elbow drop. As he heads towards the top rope, Elizabeth hops up on the apron, distracting the ref, as Woman throws her high heel to Flair. Savage intercepts it and nails Flair in the face with the shoe. Sullivan runs out, Hogan makes the save but behind his back Anderson runs in and DDTs Savage. Flair crawls on top of him and gets the win to retain his belt.
The Dungeon and the Horsemen start beating down the Megapowers. They have them very much on the ropes until someone new runs in, someone who looks suspiciously similar to the Zodiac except without facepaint and with streamers on his arms. He easily clears the ring as the Horsemen rush the commentary desk. The newcomer chases them out of there and into the back. Hogan and Mean Gene show up at commentary and Hogan reveals the new guy's name is the Booty Man, the Booty Booty Booty Man. Next week, its Hogan, Savage and the Booty Man against Flair, Anderson, and Sullivan!
Brother Count: Eleven brothers this week. Nearly a fifth of a brother per minute, but all of them were crammed into the last like thirty seconds.
Did Hogan Go Over? Its a testament to how much control Hogan had. He goes over basically every show and also gets Ed Leslie a job.
The Pepe Award for Pepe's Costume: I have no idea. I thought it was like a coast guard sailor outfit but the hat looked more like the french maid's outfit from however long ago.
Move of the Show: Either Finlay's real cool powerslam or the irish whip sequence from the Flair/Savage match. I want to give some kind of award to Flair/Savage because it was easily one of the best matches I've seen in WCW thus far.
American Males Memorial Buff Bagwell Sighting: NO BUFF! Two weeks without Marcus!!
The Terra Ryzing Future of a Company Award: The Belfast Bruiser, aka Dave "Fit" Finlay, would obviously become a staple of WCW and WWF and put on some 4*+ matches as recently as 2012. Dude rules. The Booty Man was obviously Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake aka Zodiac aka Disciple aka Ed Leslie, Hulk Hogan's Booty Brother, a constant wherever Hogan wrestled.
I Love the 90s Award for Relevancy: WCW Monday Nitro is brought to you this week by Revolution X for home video game consoles. The game that starred Aerosmith. "The music is your weapon." Fun fact: The bad guys in Revolution X were the New World Order.
The VK Wallstreet Award for the Boys Up North: Eric, as Hogan comes down to the ring, "There's this incessant whining coming from the northeast."
Mongo Sucks: Another relatively weak week for Mr. McMichaels. "I'm looking for total, ultimate revenge on this man's body tonight."
Broski of the Week: Dude cheering for Savage and wearing an enormous, teal, foam, cowboy hat.
Next Week: The Megapowers & Booty Man vs Flair, Arn, and Sullivan. More details about the Cruiserweight title, hopefully? Finlay vs Regal, please??
