WCW Monday Nitro - 3/18/96

Its a cold open into some hot action live tonight in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Giant and Jimmy Hart are beating up Loch Ness instead of the "advertised" bout, Loch Ness vs Lex Luger. I guess having cancer makes you ineligible to be in the Dungeon of Doom. Luger comes strutting down the ramp, posing, and ignoring the beatdown happening around him. The announcers inform us that the reason the fight is happening is because The Giant wants to be the only giant in WCW. Luger finally makes it to the ring, Nick Patrick rings the bell and counts Loch Ness out. Luger heads up to commentary to declare his victory the "shortest title defense in WCW history."

No Moon Landing's X Of The Year: Wrestling 2012

Wrestling owns and there was a ton of great wrestling this year

Match of the Year

Davey Richards (c) vs Michael Elgin, ROH World Championship, Ring of Honor Showdown in the Sun Day 2, Mar 31 2012
This match ruled. A fast-paced matched with high drama and some in-ring athleticism rarely seen, Richards and Elgin took us from high to low and hit every spot in between. A fantastic match featuring two of the best wrestlers in the world today that should have rocketed Elgin to even larger fame than he's current experiencing.

No Moon Landing's X Of The Year: Game Of The Year 2012

I played ten new games this year and here they are

The Walking Dead
Technical problems aside, The Walking Dead is a masterclass on how to build player relationships with NPCs. As tired, wornout, and dogwhistle-y as zombie media and zombies in general are, the Walking Dead sets all that baggage aside and creates something very unique and very important in today's landscape.

Rock Band Blitz
Thousands of dollars later, Harmonix is still supplying addictive ways to interact with the DLC from their Rock Band franchise.

Hotline Miami
Hotline Miami is one of the most vile, disgusting video games I have ever played. I almost feel bad about recommending it. Watching someone else play Hotline Miami is an experience not unlike running a high fever. Its disorienting and pulsing and confusing and it makes you feel awful in a physical way. The soundtrack and playscape are grueling, tearing at you with its thumping neon. Playing the game is an entirely different experience. Its exhilarating.  Every single encounter with every single enemy has to be thought out and analyzed but the game rewards you for pressing ahead and rarely punishes you thanks to the instant reload, super meat boy style. The music rips and tears but this time its cheering you on, helping you press ahead. Until you reach the end and have to walk back through what you did, alone. Hotline Miami is the most violent game I've ever played and every ounce of comparison to Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive is absolutely earned.

WCW SuperBrawl VI - 2/11/96

Welcome to the Bayfront Arena in beautiful St. Petersburg, Florida for WCW SuperBrawl! The only wrestling show that puns on Super Bowl but airs several weeks later. On the card tonight, the Nasty Boys take on Public Enemy in a falls count anywhere Street Fight, Brian Pillman goes up against the Taskmaster Kevin Sullivan in a Respect Match, Konnan will face One Man Gang to defend his United States Championship, Diamond Dallas Page will put his $6 million dollar lottery winnings against Johnny B. Badd's WCW Television Title and the rights to the Diamond Doll Kimberly. Sting & Luger will face off against Harlem Heat for the WCW World Tag Team Titles, and in a huge double main event, Savage will defend his WCW World Championship against Ric Flair in a steel cage and Hulk Hogan will fight The Giant in an unsanctioned steel cage fight! That's right, tonight's show features five title matches and four gimmick matches and still somehow ends up being the most boring pay-per-view I've ever seen.

WCW Monday Nitro - 1995
